joytron
Almost everyone (not including JD and i am sure there were a few others) hated Nakhla? When i came here it was mainly regarded as a cheap sub-AF foul tasting excuse for a shisha, so what has caused the change to being one of the top brands on the forum (because im sure nakhla is the same)
freeOS
I'm fairly new to hookah and hookahforums, but through a couple weeks of experimentation with pretty much all the brands, Nakhla has been the group favorite in my house hands down.

I used to love Nahkla, especially peach, and had to defend it all the damn time. Now its like everyone has a stiffy for its jiffy.
Majid
True, and Al Waha was considered much better than Nakhla.
momatik
I hated it too until I learned that you have to acclimate it.

But i remember when i first joined it was all about Al Fahker, Layalina, and Tangiers. Starbuzz was considered just too expensive, and Al Waha was the good cheap one. Nakhla was considered down there with Sultan and its ilke. Granted HH tobacco is still the worst, always has been, always will be.

FamiliarJoe
QUOTE (joytron @ Jun 25 2009, 06:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Almost everyone (not including JD and i am sure there were a few others) hated Nakhla? When i came here it was mainly regarded as a cheap sub-AF foul tasting excuse for a shisha, so what has caused the change to being one of the top brands on the forum (because im sure nakhla is the same)I will admit, my first encounter with Nakhla was terrible. I had just bought my first hookah and I bought a box of two apples. I smelt the licorice-ness seaking out of the box and I went in to it EXPECTING it to be terrible. I didn't enjoy it. I hate licorice. So I stuck with what I knew, Al Fakher. Ever since I started reading here it has ALWAYS been Tangiers is top notch/amazing/the best. I also noticed the switch with the majority thinking Nakhla was terrible, now it's soooo good. I can say honestly I am one of those "noobs" if that's what you want to call me.I tried Starbuzz, it was amazing. I didn't care about the pirce because I didn't smoke often. When I slowly started to smoke more and more. I decided it tasted good, but it wasn't worth the price. Still stuck with AF. Then I got bored with AF and started trying every shisha I could get my hands on (layalina, Jewel, al waha, havana, etc). I vaguely liked all of the brands I tried besides AW. I am convinced I picked the wrong flavors to judge the entire brand by.The past 3 months. I have tried Lucid Tangiers, OG Tangiers, and Nakhla. I loved Lucid, was curious why the fuck OG wasn't working for me (think I got it now), and I just bought my first shipment of Nakhla last week. I decided to give it a try because my friend only had 1 box of shisha left in his stash while I was at his house. A 50g box of AF double apple. I remembered hating anise flavors but I smoked it nonetheless. I LOVED IT (surprisingly)!! So I tried Nakhla Sweet melon and eskandi apple.(can't spell right now) I have now decided Nakhla due to the price and flavor is going to be my go to shisha (besides Tangiers). I may be a noob in your all's eyes but you were all in my boat at one point in your life. Think of it from the newcomers perspective. Of course we will go with what the majority of the more experienced smokers suggest. When I joined, the majority hated Nakhla.

srawas89
Always loved Nakhla...but than again thats the Lebanese blood in me haha. My mom has been smoking Nakhla for years. Anyway I never really noticed people hating Nakhla when I joined just nobody talked about it. O and to the whole starbuzz being too expensive...very very true, this is why i buy the knockoff skyzzz...cuz i could get it for about $12 and its pretty much the same quality (at least the last time i remember smoking it) as starbuzz so if u find skyzzz and its a price you would pay for starbuzz than get at least a can. ryno
I think its just the fact that nobody listened to the die hard Nakhla fans, and got disappointed in all these crazy new flavors, then they realized we were onto something!
no longer welcome
when i started smoking hookah there wasn't much more to choose from than Nakhla, then it got to be like what the OP posted. But lately, since i learned to pack it right it has become much better. I can't say it's my goto or favorite but it's in my stash always.
Sonthert
I'd like to take some of the credit. People used to treat Nakhla like it was Al Fakher. They wouldn't acclimate it or pack full bowls of it. I told people to acclimate it and pack a bowl like Tangiers and people loved it again. Its worthy. I started smoking hookah with Nakhla, and thats the way I used to use it and it was great. Its why I packed Tangiers the way I do. Its cheap and good. Win!
Stuie
Yeah I started grabbing it cause it was cheap. Even got Canon to smoke it!Good Stuff but I agrees with most of you. Great Tobacco... If you grab the right flavors. Same with any tobacco.
Barnaby
shit, you're supposed to acclimate it? Man, I never have, and it tastes fine.. Never harsh, and very tasty.. Sweet Melon has been my go to for a bit, when I don't want to have to think to much about getting a great session everytime.

Win!i find only certain flavors need acclimation ... i'll tell ya the mizo line really doesn't need any acclimation ... maybe 5 - 10 min, thats it.but for certain flavors I will agree, they definitely could use acclimation, especially cardamom, mint, mandarin, lemon, pistachio, grape, along with a few others. Sherwood
Very true. I'm sure it will swing back around at some point. It's very traditional stuff -- Arabic on the packaging, standard fruit flavors, inexpensive, etc. It' also easy to be wowed by new flavors and candy colors, but they don't hold much long-term traction here. Hence our general distaste for herbal, HH, Hookah-Freak, and their ilk. Nakhla was my first smoke, and it was a great smoke. That was 7 years ago now (my God...), and it's been excellent throughout. I've been glad to see the swing in opinion on here, precipitated in part by Eric and Mattarios' unwavering praise of Nakhla. I'm as swayed by general opinion as anyone else, and the return to Nakhla has led to a number of excellent smoke sessions at my place lately. As it turns out, we are a traditional forum. It's why I've stayed around. Politics and religion get more traction here than sports and pop culture, and we often like our tobacco unwashed.I predict a Tombak resurgence on here, and more love for Al Waha.
